What is a Confirmation sponsor?
At Holy Family, the Confirmation sponsors are an essential part of the program. Your sponsor is your guide, mentor and friend who stands by you through the whole process. This year, the sponsors will meet you for dinner and Mass on Super Sunday days (once a month). This will give you the chance to discuss what you learned that day and talk about your overall faith journey before sharing in Mass together (After Mass, you will stay for the catechetical LIFE Night in the Parish Center). Your sponsor will also be there to stand with you and present you to the bishop for Confirmation.
Who should you pick for your sponsor?
Your ideal sponsor would be one of your Godparents, assuming you are close and they are a Confirmed, practicing Catholic. If you cannot choose one of your Godparents, you might consider a family member or someone who will walk with you through your life and continue to support you in your faith journey. You should pick someone you look up to, someone whose faith life has had an impression on you, someone who you respect, like, and want to be with you during this spiritual journey. Also, the person must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic.
Who should you not pick for your sponsor?
Someone your own age and maturity. Also, you cannot have either of your parents as a sponsor.
When do you need to have a sponsor chosen by?
The sooner the better, but you have to have a sponsor by Sept 30th.
What if you don't know anyone to ask to be your sponsor?
It is ideal if you can seek someone out to fill this role for you. However, if you don't know of anyone who you would like to ask to fill this role for you, we can help find a sponsor for you from the Parish. Please let us know immediately if you need help finding a sponsor.
